Anthony Pompliano, a US-based crypto influencer with millions of followers across different platforms, is set to join ProCapBTC, a firm planning to go big on Bitcoin.
Pompliano will become CEO of the firm that is planning to raise more than $750 million to buy the world’s largest cryptocurrency, according to a Financial Times report.
Pompliano has more than 1.7 million followers on X. He also hosts a podcast and has more than 130,000 followers on Instagram.
“ProCapBTC would then look to raise $500 million in equity and $250 million in convertible debt as part of a merger with Columbus Circle Capital 1, a publicly traded blank cheque vehicle backed by New York boutique investment bank Cohen & Company,” the FT mentioned in a story on 13 June.
ProCapBTC would not be the first company to raise capital to purchase Bitcoin. Several leading firms including US President Donald Trump’s publicly traded social media group have raised billions of dollars from investors in recent months.
Michael Saylor’s firm Strategy (formerly MicroStrategy) raised billions of dollars in the past to buy the world’s most valuable crypto asset. Strategy is the biggest publicly listed holder of Bitcoin with 582,000 BTC.
Strategy acquired 582,000 BTC for almost $41 billion, an average price of nearly $70,000 per Bitcoin. According to BTC’s current price, the value of Strategy’s bitcoin holdings stands at $61 billion, an on-paper profit of almost $20 billion.
